All staff of DHCC and the DHCC community are eligible for membership in the Library and access to services of the Al Maktoum Medical Library. Visitors are welcome to use the facilities.
The Registration process is activated on presentation of a DHCC ID and License number, where applicable, and completion of the Library registration form. A passport photo is required for addition to the Library card. Library cards are issued to registered users. On registration, a refundable book deposit will be required to secure borrowing of print resources.
DOCUMENT DELIVERY AND ON - DEMAND SERVICES
Document delivery services are available for journal articles which are not available in the Library’s collection. A cost may be incurred to Departments for access to journal articles and publications on demand.
PHOTOCOPYING AND COPYRIGHT
Photocopying and scanning facilities are available for all staff. External patrons may use the facility at a cost of 25 fils per page.
Copyright restrictions are to be observed within the acceptable fair use policy.
The Website provides coverage of all services available at the Library. Information is updated regularly and will provide access to key information for patrons on a 24/7 basis.
USE OF ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
The Al Maktoum Medical Library provides access to a number of eresources. bringing a wealth of information to staff. All resources are available on the Library’s portal, offering 24/7 access. Registered Patrons should follow an authentication process to access user specific information. Eresource use is also evaluated on a continuous basis.
Print resources are available for loan to staff of DHCC. Reference resources are for consultation only.
Reading rooms are designed to provide a comfortable working space for library patrons. Reading rooms are designated in three zones, the Quiet Zone located in the reading room area, the discussion group study zone area and the Information Commons.
RARE BOOK SPECIAL COLLECTION
Use of the Rare Book Collection is by appointment only. All resources available in this Collection must be used in the Rare Book room. Only pencils and notepaper are allowed in this area. .
GROUP STUDY LOUNGE
The Lounge is designed for use by all Academic, Clinical staff, and students at DHCC to facilitate research and discussion groups at the group level. Bookings for the lounge may be made at the Information desk.
The Al Maktoum Medical Library welcomes use of its training room facilities. The training room is designed to meet general informational, educational, needs including activities such as discussion groups, panels, lectures and seminars. Staff may reserve the meeting room using the form provided.
Requests will be honoured on a first-come, first-served basis. Requests may be sent via email. When making a reservation please provide:
- Name of Department.
- Name, address, and telephone number of the responsible person.
- Total number of persons expected to attend.
Notice of cancellation should be made as soon as possible.
FOOD AND DRINK
Food and drink are allowed only in the designated lounge area at the entrance of the library. Bottled water is allowed in the study lounge.
EXHIBITS AND DISPLAYS
Occasionally, exhibits from sources within the DHCC community may be displayed in the Library. All exhibits considered for space within the Library must support the mission of the DHCC. Set up and removal will be the responsibility of the exhibitor. The Library assumes no liability for damage or loss relating to any exhibit setup for public viewing in the Library.
LOST AND DAMAGED RESOURCES
Books must be returned to the library in the same condition in which they were borrowed There is a replacement fee for any library resource which is not returned, lost or damaged. A standard fee of 1000 AED applies for lost books. To note that the Al Maktoum Library will not be liable for any items left in the Library.
Patrons are to follow guidelines and directions provided by designated emergency personnel in case of emergency.
