All staff of DHCC and the DHCC community are eligible for membership in the Library and access to services of the Al Maktoum Medical Library. Visitors are welcome to use the facilities.
The Registration process is activated on presentation of a DHCC ID and License number, where applicable, and completion of the Library registration form. A passport photo is required for the Library card. Library cards are issued to registered users.
All registered Patrons of the Library are entitled to borrow resources and have access to borrowing privileges..
INTERLIBRARY LOAN AND DOCUMENT DELIVERY
Document delivery services are available for journal articles which are not available in the Library’s collection. A cost may be incurred for access to journal articles and publications on demand.
PHOTOCOPYING AND COPYRIGHT
Photocopying and scanning facilities are available for all Patrons. Copyright restrictions are to be observed within the acceptable fair use policy.
ACCESS TO ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
The Website provides information on and access to services available at the Library. Information is updated regularly and access to e-resources is available for registered patrons on a 24/7 basis.
Due to terms and conditions in Licensing Agreements, remote access to subscribed e-resources is restricted to registered patrons of the DHCC community, students, faculty, and staff of the University.
Registered Patrons should follow the authentication process provided on registration to access e-resources remotely. Authorized users and walk-in visitors may also access e-resources onsite using the available computer workstations.
Print resources are available for loan to staff of DHCC. Reference resources are for consultation only.
RARE BOOKS AND SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
Use of the Collection is by appointment only. All resources available in this Collection must be used in the Special Collection room. Only pencils and notepaper are allowed in this area.
Reading rooms are designed to provide a comfortable working space for library patrons. Reading rooms are designated in two zones, the Quiet Zone and the collaborative group study zone area.
GROUP STUDY LOUNGE
Study lounges are designed for use by all Academia, Faculty, and Residents of MBRU to facilitate research, collaboration and discussion. Bookings for these rooms may be made at the Information desk. Study lounge 1 is designated for silent study. Two private study rooms are available on the 2nd Floor for Faculty. A collaborative area and seven study pods are available on the second floor for student use. Bookings may be made at the Information desk
TRAINING MULTIMEDIA ROOMS
The training room is designed to meet general instruction needs including activities such as meetings, tutorials, lectures and seminars. Patrons may reserve the rooms subject to availability and using the online booking form. Requests will be honoured on a first-come, first-served basis. Notice of cancellation should be made as soon as possible.
FOOD AND DRINK
Food consumption is not allowed in the Library. Drinks are allowed in the designated areas and only in covered lid containers.
EXHIBITS AND DISPLAYS
Occasionally, exhibits from sources within the MBRU and DHCC community may be displayed in the Library. All exhibits considered for space within the Library must align with the mission of the MBRU and DHCC.
LOST AND DAMAGED RESOURCES
Books must be returned to the library in the same condition in which they were borrowed. There is a replacement fee for any library resource which is not returned, lost or damaged. A standard fee of AED 500 applies for lost books. To note that the Al Maktoum Medical Library will not be liable for any items left in the Library.
Patrons are to follow guidelines and directions provided by designated emergency personnel in case of emergency.
